|
|
I've got an old Squier Stratocaster which is serial number A013959. Is there any way of determining how old this is? It's a great guitar to play, better than some genuine USA strats I've played...

Not sure if this applies to Squier guitars too, but for dating Japanese made Fenders, it would appear to be 1985-1986. This fits in with about the time I bought the guitar (2nd hand in 1989)...../Robbo

| Robbo, that is an excellent site that I use for dating Fenders. However, I was checking out a Japanese Squier and I seem to remember that there was a period when they couldnīt be manufactured abroad for some reason. To cover this, Fender made a bunch of guitars in Fullerton and simply branded them "Squier". Try searching into US or American made Squiers to make sure you havenīt got one of those beauts. |

Unfortunately I don't think I've got one of these rare beasts as mines has "Made in Japan" on the headstock. Now THERE's a good album...

Jap squiers are some of the best, you have a guitar worth upwards of $400, if it were chinese or indian then it might be a bit gay, but only a bit.
seriously Jap squiers are excellent guitars and the second hand price reflects this, if it were a jap vintage strat of the mid 80's era then you would be looking at $800+ in England they fetch Ģ450-Ģ600, but then we recognise a good guitar when we see one.
I have 2, an early 90's squire, and a mid 90's 60's reissue, both Jap of course. |

450-600 quid?? It was a bargain then. I only paid 80 with a hardcase in London. Another jewel found in "Loot". I wouldn't sell it though, it's such a nice guitar to play. I'll hand it down to one of my sons when they're a bit older. Then the little feckers will probably put it straight on EBAY |

of course the upper figure is for an early to mid eighties JV strat, they are very collectable, worse ways yours is worth Ģ350+ a very good buy indeed.
I recently paid Ģ375 for a jap 60's reissue and that i think is a mid 90's. |
