Anyone heard of Vester guitars? i have an old vester guitar. it has the body style of a tele, but with no pickguard, a more sculpted body, and active pickups. the neck and headstock resemble that of a Jackson guitar, with the sharkfin inlays and pointy head. the word "vester" is written on the headstock in a script resembling the way fender writes it. the guitar is sea-foam green. I've tried to find information on it, but with no luck. i'm pretty sure i saw slash playing a white vester in a vidoe, but i'm not sure. anybody have a clue about Vester?
also, my friend has a very old ibanez bass, shaped like a gibson sg. it's got two pickups, and a rotary "chicken- head knob" selector. i know this isn't a bass forum. but does anybody know what kind of ibanez he's got?
thanks for the help! |

Pitzel, I remember Vester guitars in the late '80s. They were budget-ish guitars and, although they often went for a metal stylee (hot, pointy strats, Jacksonalikes), they also did the boggo Precision bass copy.
"Vesta" was an unrelated company that made "just add boiling water" food that tasted almost exactly unlike the paella or chow mein it pretended to be. I had a similar attitude to Vester guitars. Remove the control plate (or back rout cover, as applicable) and check the wood. May be a ply body.
The Ibanez will be a copy of the Gibson EB-3 bass. Pretty accurate in looks, down to the chicken-head selector, these were made in the Fuji-Gen-Gakki plant in the 70s and 80s and (along with Tokai and Greco) caused all that 'lawsuit' rumpus. It's a good bass, if you like shortscale (30") basses. I can't remember whether it was a bolt-on, or more correct set-neck but that's easy for you to check.
It doesn't really sound like a Gibby, but a lot of that's down to the "Sidewinder" HB at the neck. Nobody (including Dimarzio's Model One) really got that copied. They do come up a fair bit on eBay, but make sure it's a genuine, for under $100. I've even once seen the pair (neck + bridge) go for £100 (ca $200) on FleebUK. I'd consider putting in a Sidewinder if you want more of a "Cream, Live" sound, but it's a good enough bass as stock. I wonder if the Ibanez doesn't suffer the neck and headstock cracks that the Gibson is notorious for? |

Hey pitzel_001,
I run the ultimate obscure guitar website at VintAxe.com. I have some Vester Literature I'll post for you if you are interested. I'm currently swamped, but I'll try to get it up for you within the next week if you are interested. Check it out. SB |
