Damn..just got done building one of these and now I'm hooked Razz

Never tried anything like this before and it fired right up and sounds great. Only problem is now I wanna do something else .I've got my eye on this one:

But have to save up for that. I presume the mrs is gonna give me grief on these but they really are a lot of fun . May as well go for the Marshall sound to go along with that Fender 5e3 clone.

Welcome back, myfoot. My kind of guy; a valve amp builder. My chum Terry in CA built me a 5E3 replica chassis, even using Fender trannies. Very, very nice with a pair of Sylvania 6V6GTs (I have bagfuls of old-stock 6V6s; so cheap to get compared with EL34s and 6L6s). It sometimes goes a bit funny on me, though, and I like the 5F6 Champ-style chassis he made for me. Very simple, one great tone.

Metro stuff is well regarded and the forum is good, too. Terry is sometimes on there (Tube Tramp). At first I thought the JTM was a lot of $, but it does include the case and the tubes.

Thanks! I bought the speaker for the Tweed from
http://www.warehousespeakers.com/12v30.html after seeing some pretty good reviews on some other music forums.Anyway the speaker sounds excellent for the money and I'm thinking of waiting till he comes out with his Blue Dog clone and trying one of those. I have an older <GASP> Crate cab I bought for my son some time back that I wouldn't mind filling up with those vintage 30 clones .

Nice. I have a pair of semi-open 2x12"s "Goodmans of England" that came with another amp (ca 1964). I'm not a huge fan of the later Goodmans Audiom and originally thought of these cabs as a side-freebie to the amp I was more keen on getting. However, these drivers are very nice and work well with both Brit EL34 amps and (using a single cab) the 6V6 amps. HST, the 6V6s don't sound particularly "British" even with these drivers and I'm curious about going for a Jensen.

Old 6V6s are cheap, as I mentioned, and there was one I picked up that does break up early and really changes the character of the Champ head. It's a General Electric 6V6GTY and sounded like a different amp (EL84ish) compared with RCAs, Sylvanias and suchlike. Might be worth looking for one or two if you see them cheap.

Seems to be quite an array for kit builders. MM is one of the most often touted (but pricey ) Heyboer is supposed to be good or are there any others to consider? Still trying to save enough money for the metro build .

Don't go for Heyboer, it's rubbish, go for Megatron, thats the one that can Transform from a gun with a sight, to a robot thing with a sight.

footie, I've ever yet had to replace a tranny; thankfully. Weber is one place I'd check. Cerrem and ChrisM on the Plexipalace forum are good for info on trannies.
