Ozmon asked on the previous version of this board if there were sub $500 left 5-strings, other than the Dean and Yamaha. Here's my contrib:

Not an easy find. I got a Jim Reed BE5 (www.jim-reed-guitars.com and click on the British flag to get English language). Maybe above your price cap, but the bolt-on models are cheaper. Apart from the Yamaha, there is the Kramer Stryker (bolt-on) and Baretta (neck-thru) that often get a heavy discount in the net-shops. Rondo music do a good selection of lefties, including 5- and 6-string basses, for cheap money. Have a look at www.leftybass.com to join in the community.

Hope this helps, Oz (name coincidence, and we're both lefty bassists. Spooky Shocked )
