Not strictly a guitar topic. But up till now I have used "old fashioned" methods to learn songs i.e. borrow books, tab off the net, sneeking a look in music stores and when all else fails using ears or watching DVD's. A friend recently showed me Musictime. A piece of software which reads midi files, plays and displays the notes in manuscript and tablature. O.K - having researched on the web I find that I have missed the revolution and a very sad person for not being up to speed.

I have found that there are so many software applications offering to do so much that I need some advice. I don't want a home studio - I want an application which will
- do the basics of read/play midi files for each instrument, in particular guitar and bass line.
- organise my tab files and have the capacity to edit tem
- Create simple arrangements i.e. lyrics with chords / and an ability to edit / notate

Can someone tell me what the common software is / recommendations etc
