- Press Release

Specimen has announced the grand opening of Specimen Guitar Shop’s very own Chicago School of Guitar Making. "This idea has been incubating in our minds for a while and we are thrilled that it is finally coming to fruition" said Ian Schneller. "After 20+ years in the repair and custom guitar-building business, I have amassed a wealth of knowledge and experience that I would like to share before I turn to dust. Moreover, it appears that no one else in Chicago is offering these types of courses, and based on the inquiries I receive every week, there seems to be a need."

The initial offering will be a course on Guitar Setup and Maintenance. "We will be adding more courses as time goes on and, for those of you outside the Chicago area, these additions may include weekend and full-day seminars. Our goal is to offer a multitude of repair classes for both stringed instruments and tube amps and ultimately, a more intensive course on guitar building for those of you ready to take the plunge. If any of you have thoughts on subjects you would like to see offered, please let us know. The curriculum will be guided partially by your feedback as there is a wealth of subject matter to cover."
