All the software you need to get started making MP3s can be obtained from the Net, e.g. by following instructions at Music Global Network.

In order to play MP3 files, you need to download an MP3 player, such as Winamp.

To create MP3 files you must get one or more CD-ripping utilities such as Audiograbber, WinDac32, CDDA, CD2Wav or CDDA32. Then you need an MP3 Encoder. A good WAV-editing program such as CoolEdit95, SoundForge/32, or GoldWave is also useful.
