Crow’s SJ Special features Gibson’s latest technology in Acoustic-Electric construction and electronics, designed for improved dynamics and projection.

Sheryl Crow’s mixture of rock, folk, country and pop requires acoustic guitars that projects loud enough and captures her nuances well. She also needs it to perform great when plugged in and be able to withstand the rigors of her constant gigs. She worked with Gibson to find the right design elements and through extensive in-studio testing of guitars, they were able to decide on a design for her latest signature guitar.

The resulting guitar is handcrafted by Gibson Acoustic in Bozeman, Montana. It features a solid Adirondack red spruce top and solid mahogany back and sides. It utilizes a ’30s era X-bracing pattern that has scalloped spruce braces to achieve optimal acoustic wood resonance. The combination of materials and construction give this guitar depth, richness and clarity while retaining the projection and volume that made the Southern Jumbo series popular.

The Gibson SJ Special Edition has to be classy and beautiful just like its namesake – and to achieve this, the top is finished with custom shop, sunset-toned vintage sunburst using high-gloss nitrocellulose lacquer. The edges are wrapped in multi-ply binding while the soundhole features a traditional double-ring rosette. To protect the finish, a nice looking tortoise pickguard sits on the guitars top.

The neck is made of one-piece mahogany carved to a modified V profile and topped with 12″ radius rosewood fretboard. Mother of pearl split-parallelogram inlays are spread throughout the fretboard while the headstock is adorned with traditional gold script pre-war Gibson logo. Other design features include hot hide glue construction, Gibson’s traditional dovetail neck joint, genuine bone nut and bridge pins and Waverly nickel tuners with pearloid buttons. Finally the guitar is fitted with the Trance Audio Amulet pickup system which provides transparent and clear sounds to your PA or amplifier.

The Gibson Sheryl Crow Southern Jumbo Special Edition is currently retailing for $3,299.
