Les Paul Ukulele?

Yes it’s true – the Les Paul brand has been extended to the ongoing Ukulele craze!

I know what you’re thinking, “Les Paul is famous for his contributions to the solid body electric guitar and multitrack recording, chart topping records, and…. lot’s of other things, but not for Ukuleles”.

True, but I think we can forgive the folks at Gibson/Epiphone for wanting to jump on the Ukulele bandwagon by using the Les Paul brand.

I hold this position for the logically rigorous reason that the result, as pictured above, is cute!

If you look closely you’ll see that thanks to the piezo film pickup under the saddle, you can plug this little baby in via its 1/4″ output jack, and really rock out with it.

The Les Paul Ukulele has AAA Grade Flame Maple top with Mahogany back and sides. The neck is also Mahogany with a 19 fret, 15 inch concert scale, Rosewood fingerboard with Mother of Pearl inlaid dots on top.

It comes in 2 colors: Heritage Cherry Sunburst (as pictured above) and the darker Vintage Sunburst.

It’s also the first Uke I’ve noticed with a pickguard – but it wouldn’t seem like a Les Paul without one.

The MSRP is $179 – I haven’t found anyone selling them online yet, so I’m not sure what the street price will be.

  1. Les Paul branding
    Bill

First Gibson gave us the Jimi Hendrix themed grand piano. Then there was the stillborn Jimi Hendrix Stratoclone. Now Gibson takes tactless marketing to new heights… the Les Paul Ukuele (an instrument that Mr. Paul NEVER played). What’s next, Mr. Jerkowitz… a Leo Fender model acoustic bass???

Of course, Gibson will force these on their dealers, where they probably will sit and rot next to the $120 dollar guitar straps that they stuck them with.

C’mon, Gibson… try making instruments that players want. You can do it… quit foisting this crap on the market.
