Taylor unveils limited edition exotic wood guitars – Hawaiian Koa 300 Series, 416ce-LTD Ovangkol Baritone, Cocobolo 800 Series and three GS Mini Limited guitars.

Taylor continues its tradition of introducing fresh selections guitars with exotic tonewoods with this year’s Spring 2012 Limited Edition models.

Hawaiian Koa is a popular pick for many players because of its great visuals and complex tonality. Koa is normally reserved for top end Taylor guitars, however Taylor sometimes acquire less figured Koa woods that still have tonal character. These Spring Limited Edition Koa guitars are not as extravagant as their expensive high end Taylor brothers, but they do have that “wow” factor at a relatively lower price point.

Hawaiian Koa Limited is available in steel string models – 310ce-LTD, 312ce-LTD, 314ce-LTD and 316ce-LTD. You can also get the nylon string versions – 312ce-N-LTD and 314ce-N-LTD. These guitars feature back and sides made of Hawaiian Koa, with a Sitka spruce top. All these models feature pearloid dot fretboard inlays, Venetian cutaway, a three-ring rosette, and ES electronics. The Hawaiian Koa 300 Series guitar are expected to sell for $2,898.

the 416ce-LTD is part of Taylor’s Specialty guitar category, it is a 6 string Baritone guitar that employs ovangkol sides and back with sitka spruce on top. Baritone design is desired by players who want the low-growl of bari-voiced instruments which are tuned from B to B. Its unique setup and tuning is complimented well by Ovangkol’s rich tonal range and clarity. Other features include ES electronics, Venetian cutaway, baritone bracing, a three-ring rosette and progressive dot fretboard inlays. This guitar is currently priced at $2,798.

The 814ce-LTD and 816ce-LTD features Cocobolo sides paired with a Sitka spruce top. The premium Cocobolo woods used are known for their rich tonal palette and vivid complexion which gives them a premium quality appeal. These exotic woods are normally reserved for Taylor’s expensive Presentation Series and custom orders, but this spring, Taylor made an exception. Other features of these guitars include ES electronics, curly maple binding, Venetian cutaway, and an abalone rosette. It utilizes a special CV bracing that further enhances the projection and tonality of Cocobolo wood. The Cocobolo 800 Series has an MSRP of $4,498.

Taylor’s popular GS Mini series gets three limited edition models: GS Mini Blackwood, GS Mini Rosewood and GS Mini Maple. These small bodied guitars all feature solid Sitka spruce tops and is paired with any of the three mentioned side and back woods. A lot of players have been raving about the GS Mini’s ability to sound good despite its relatively affordable prize and small size. Each Mini comes with dot fretboard inlays and a three-ring rosette, and is pre-fitted for Taylor’s aftermarket ES-Go™ soundhole pickup. You can get a GS Mini limited for only $748

The Taylor Spring 2012 Limited Edition Guitars is scheduled to be available in early April.
