Breedlove expand their Legacy series with the new Legacy Concert Koa LTD, featuring solid koa back and sides.

Described as heirloom-quality instruments, each Legacy series guitars are purposefully built to achieve specific sounds, and this one is meant to showcase the sonic characteristics that koa brings to acoustic guitars.
According to the company, this limited run guitar features specs that are “highly calculated” to get the look and sound that they are aiming for. Their main purpose is to reproduce the mellow and sweet tone expected from Koa, while retaining good volume, depth and clarity. Also present is the strong, light and extended harmonic sound of Sitka spruce.
Colin Besancon of Breedlove said, “The dream of mine for this build was to be able to bring the sweetness of Koa to the Legacy series so that its voice would bloom and develop a richness over time.”
The new Breedlove Legacy Concert Koa LTD features an all solid body design, with a solid sitka spruce for the top and solid koa for the back and sides. While not as popular as mahogany or rosewood, Koa is the go-to exotic wood of choice for many guitarists and manufacturers, thanks to its elegant appearance and unique sonic character.
Together with traditional solid sitka spruce, the use of solid Koa for the back and sides will give this guitar a warm tone that sits in between that of mahogany and rosewood body acoustics. Interestingly, the solid sitka spruce top follows the company’s “graduated” top design, which means that it is slightly thicker on the treble side. They take careful measures to evaluate each top for stiffness and density and they then graduate each one as needed as needed. According to Breedlove, this results in clearer, cleaner highs and better balance, and this is a feature that sets their acoustic guitars apart from other makers.
The body follows Breedlove’s popular concert shape, which is known for its articulate tone that contrasts the usual boomy and sometimes muddy sound of dreadnoughts. Be it for fingerstyle, strumming or for vocal accompaniment, Breedlove is convinced that this guitar can handle them all properly.
The neck is crafted from Honduran mahogany and is topped by an ebony fretboard with 20 frets. It has a nutwidth of 1.75″ and a scale length of 25.5″, both of which allow for a familiar playing feel that even players who play mainly electric guitars will appreciate.
