This guitar is part of the company’s new batch of acoustic guitars for 2015, which covers a wide range of price points. Being part of Martin’s Custom Shop built line, this particular model is meant for guitarists that are looking for upper-tier boutique acoustic guitars.

Cocobolo is an exotic tonewood that is popularly used on premium guitars by various guitar builders. This tropical hardwood has great looking grains that are pleasing to the eyes, and more importantly when used on a guitar, it behaves like a combination of rosewood and koa. So it is not surprising to find companies like Martin using this tonewood on their premium guitars.

The solid cocobolo back and sides of the CS-00041-15 are paired with a solid Adirondack spruce top, a premium combination that when built properly – like by Martin’s best luthiers at the Custom Shop, would expectedly look and sound impressive.

To ensure that the guitar will sound close to vintage Martin guitars, the company utilized their new “Vintage Tone System” or “VTS”. This is a curious way of heating up new wood to emulate old guitar wood. The company extrapolated saying, “The new Martin Vintage Tone System (VTS) uses a unique recipe that is based on the historic torrefaction system. The VTS acts much like a time machine in which Martin can target certain time periods and age the top/braces to that era. This focused method allows Martin’s craftsmen and women to recreate not only the pleasing visual aesthetics of a vintage guitar, but also reproduce the special tones previously reserved for vintage instruments.

Other features of the CS-00041-15’s body include a delicately scalloped 1/4″ top bracing, Hawaiian flamed koa wood trim binding, and style 41 abalone inlay around the top and rosette.

The guitar has a genuine mahogany neck with modern carbon fiber truss rod support. It has a shorter than usual 24.9″ scale length, and is topped by a solid ebony fretboard. It has 20 total frets and meets the body at the 14th fret, nut width is 1.75″ and the fingerboard is wrapped with highly flamed koa binding. The solid square taper headstock features a cocobolo headplate with premium inlays. Specially designed concave ribbon inlays in select abalone, mother-of-pearl and genuine mahogany grace the black ebony fingerboard.
