Washburn has announced a new 'Limited Edition Rare Wood Series,' with their first two acoustic models made with spalted maple tops, backs and sides. Spalted maple is maple wood with dark veins caused by a pattern of rot or bacteria in the wood.
The D49CESPK and D49SPK
Both new acoustics feature rosewood fret boards, triangle MOP and abalone inlays, and Grover Exclusive Ebonite Button tuners. The acoustic electric, D49CESPK, also features B-Band pre-amp electronics.

I bought an electric model new, from a dealer on Ebay. It came with a numbered certificate, full warranty and a very good hard case. After only two months, the top opened up nicely and the tone is very good.
From the bottom up it’s crisp and sustained. The electronics are top rate and it sounds fantastic through my Roland A60 Acoustic Amp. The intonation is absolutely perfect. Once tuned with the on-board tuner it is in tune with itself everywhere on the fret board. All of this surprised me since it is made in China. I had not expected the quality to be this good. I added a clear pick guard. The only critique I have is the colored binding on the fretboard makes sighting the fret markers difficult.
