The version 1.1 update for the Kemper Profiling Amplifier adds 50 amp profiles and 8 new effects to its already impressive collection.

Aside from new features, this firmware update will further bolster the popularity of this amp’s ability to “profile” or digitally capture the tone of any amp.

I consider the Kemper Profiling Amplifier as one that guitarists should watch out for. The flexibility implication of its profiling feature is enormous, going beyond the limits imposed by other modeling gear. It also allows you to carry your collection of tube amps in just a small lunch box sized amp. And the best thing about this new modeling amp is its impressive sound, the product demo videos were successful in impressing guitarists world over.

To further establish its reputation, the updated Kempler Profiling Amp comes with more profiled amps. The 50 new amp profiles were all taken with the goal of creating a “3D-like” feeling. Some of the notable new amp profiles include a 1975 Vox AC15 amp equipped with a 1×12 Chicago Telephone Supply speaker, and a rare ’65 Blackface Bassman with 2×12 Celestion Black Shadow speakers. Another curious amp profile that is worth mentioning is that of a Dead Vox AC15, the Kemper Profiler Team profiled the very moment the amp died. This profile is said to produce a fuzz tone that is reminiscent of early Led Zeppelin. Other special rigs that were profiled include a Roland Jazzchorus, a Marshall Studio 15, a Danelectro Twin from 1962 and many more.

Firmware version 1.1 also brings in eight new “Lo-Fi FX” that are normally found in synthesizers or digital plug-ins. After you update your Kemper Profiling Amp, you can now enjoy playing with interesting effects that include: Ring Modulator, Rate Reducer, Frequency Shifter, Bit Shaper, Hard Shaper, Recti Shaper, Soft Shaper, and Wave Shaper. You can place these effects either pre-amp or post amp, which adds to its flexibility.

Here is the Lo-Fi FX overview from Kemper Amps:

  • Rate Reducer – reduces the audio sampling rate which results in a raspy, scratchy tone with aliasing.
  • Ring Modulator – lower settings produce a tremolo-like effect, higher settings produce a bell-like character
  • Frequency Shifter – useful for creating subtle harmonic deviations and high-pitched, clangourous noise.
  • Recti Shaper – just like octave fuzzes, this effect works by combining a rectifier with distortion.
  • Bit Shaper – same as introducing a fizzy distortion, with a choking of the signal at high settings.
  • Soft Shaper, Hard Shaper and Wave Shaper – distortion effects with unique digital characteristics.

Aside from the Amp profiles provided and the ones you can create – you can also download amp profiles made by other users, just like sharing presets. This amplifier is currently available worldwide and is being sold for $1,980. You can check out how they “profiled” a Soldano amp below:
