The company designed it to be a lightweight tube amplifier recording solution for guitarists who are looking for a wide plethora of tones in a single compact combo amplifier package.

The new Supro 1610RT Comet has a low-wattage amplifier section that can switch between 14 Watts or 6 Watts for recording and practice use. It is designed to provide cranked tube tones at lower volume levels making it ideal for getting good mic’ed amp tones.

The preamp section houses three JJ 12AX7 tubes and a single JJ 12AT7 preamp tube, designed to deliver what the company describes as warm and blooming clean tones. According to the press release, turning the volume knob past 12-o’clock drives the amp to go into the Supro crunch tones, all the way to violin-like overdrive at max setting. The Comet amp is designed to have substantially higher gain than the usual vintage-flavored amp, so you get more versatility while keeping the volume to comfortable levels.

For the power amp section, Supro utilized a single 6L6 tube that is wired to a switchable plate voltage. It lets you switch between studio-and-practice-friendly 6 Watts or go for 14 Watts if you need the extra volume. The company expounds: “The overdrive that occurs within the Comet’s “single-ended,” Class-A output stage is rich in even-order harmonics and soaked in tube compression. True to the legacy of the original, microphone-friendly Supro combos, the Comet’s exceptional dynamics and ultra-low noise performance make it an ideal recording amp.

True to its all-tube form, even the reverb and tremolo effects are 12AX7 tube based. Interestingly, the tremolo effect is set in the preamp before the reverb, unlike conventional setups where it is placed in the power amp section. According to the company, this configuration allows for a wider overall speed range and a deeper effect.

The Supro 1610RT Comet is wrapped in Black Rhino Hide tolex, with a gold faceplate, white welting and black piping. The custom-made CR10 speaker has no beam blocker up front, which helps in maximizing throw and the clarity of the higher frequencies.

Supro assures that each amplifier is hand-assembled in Port Jefferson, NY, USA, to ensure quality and consistency. The Supro 1610RT Comet amplifier is now available with a retail price of $1,349 USD. For the complete specifications and other details, you can head over to Supro USA.
