The Fender Limited Relic 1955 Precision Bass is one of the latest aged-look instrument from Fender Custom Shop.

Limited Relic 1955 Precision Bass

This bass features a black over three-color sunburst nitrocellulose lacquer finish, which gives it its distinct appearance.

If you expect the body to be heavy like typical P Bass instruments, you will be quite surprised because this one features a body made of lightweight ash. It has the same shape only lighter, resulting in a more comfortable instrument.

The neck of this instrument is made from quartersawn maplecarved into a 1955 soft “V” profile. The bass has a scale length of 34″, a fingerboard radiues of 7.25″ and a nut width of 1.7″. The maple fretboard has 20 vintage-style frets in total and comes with classic black dot inlays to match the finish.

Having an aged body requires matching vintage tones, and so Fender Custom Shop created a custom-wound “stacked” ’51 Precision Bass pickup for this instrument. The pick design follows traditional single coil P Bass style sounds with straightforward controls for master volume and master tone

To enhance the vintage vibe of the instrument, a chrome metal cover is placed on top of the pickguard to mimic vintage P Bass instruments. A finger rest is also put just below the point where the neck and body meet.

The hardware follow a chrome theme, including the 2-saddle 50’s vintage-style bridge with steel barrel-style saddles and its american vintage reverse open-gear bass tuners. a 1-ply parchment pickguard completes its vintage appeal.
