Gretsch G5440LS Hollow Body Bass

Gretsch adds a long scale hollow-body bass guitar to their Electromatic series, the G5440LS featuring Black Top Filter’Tron Bass pickups.

Gretsch G5440LS Hollow Body Bass

The Grestch appeal of this hollow-body bass guitar is unmistakable, and being part of the Electromatic series, it is also relatively affordable.

At the core of the G5440LS is its 5-ply maple hollow body that features sound-post bracing construction for improved resonance. The top, back and f holes are bound to highlight the guitar’s distinctive shape.

The LS in its model name means Long Scale, it is fitted with a 34″ long scale maple neck. The neck is topped with a bound rosewood fingerboard with 22 medium jumbo frets and hump-block pearloid inlays.

After finding some Baldwin-era Filter’Tron pickups, Gretsch decided to mimic the sound with their new Black Top Filter’Tron pickups and they even applied it to their hollow-body bass guitars. They equipped the G5440LS with two Black Top Filter’Tron bass pickups which are specifically voiced to handle low register tones.

The pickups are controlled by a traditional 3-position toggle switch along with dedicated volume knobs, a master tone and a master volume knob.

The hardware on this bass guitar is chrome-plated to match other Electromatic guitar models. Other hardware includes enclosed precision tuners and a rosewood-based 4-saddle Adjusto-Matic bridge. A stylish “G” cutout tailpiece rounds up the features of this great looking hollow-body bass.

The current list price for the Gretsch G5440LS is at $1,300, but I’ve seen them being sold online for only $899.99.
