Michael Tobias Design announces KZX Model Basses
Michael Tobias Designs has announced the introduction of the limited edition KZX models of basses. The KZX, available initially in a 5 string version, is an evolution of the popular "Z" basses currently on the market. "I wanted to narrow the gap between my American Handmade basses and "Z" bass and the most logical and profound way was to upgrade the electronics package" states Michael Tobias. "The X version incorporates Bartolini pick-ups and a 9 volt pre-amp that are voiced similarly to the 18 volt system I use in the handmade instruments.

The 3 band active pre-amp features a switchable midrange that is activated via a push-pull pot on the Midrange EQ control and an active/passive selector that is activated via a push-pull pot on the Master Volume control. This system really brings out the tone of the wood and offers the player a full pallete of sonic colors."
The initial run of "X" basses will ship with a Burled Maple top finished in hi-gloss Translucent Black, smoked chrome hardware, chrome logo and a a smoked chrome truss rod cover. The first 30 instruments will be individually signed and numbered by Michael Tobias. Available at selected MTD Kingston retailers in the fall of 2007 with wider distribution in 2008.
