Aside from the new P-Bass, Mike also worked with Fender to update his more affordable signature model, the Squier Mike Dirnt Precision Bass.

Being part of Fender’s Road Worn series, this instrument carries over the look of Mike’s first signature P-Bass while applying modern relic techniques to give the guitar a broken-in look and feel.

This new but old-looking P-Bass is designed to meet Mike’s requirements, bearing both the quality and sound that will let Mike attend to his Green Day duties gig after gig.

The new signature bass is modeled after a 1951 Precision Bass, bearing the same aesthetic and hardware style as vintage basses. The body is carved from Ash and is wrapped by Fender’s “Road Worn” Nitrocellulose Lacquer finish. It features a ’55 era forearm contour and pickguard, which gives this P-bass a distinctly retro look. You can pick between two finishes, 3-Color Sunburst or White Blonde.

The neck of the bass guitar is made from maple which is carved into a thick “C” shape. The headstock follows the shape of a ’51-style Telecaster, much like the other Mike Dirnt signature basses. To please more players, Fender has made this bass available with either rosewood or maple fretboard. Other vintage specs are carried over including a scale length of 34″, 9.4″ fretboard radius, 20 medium jumbo frets and featuring a synthetic bone nut.

Tasked to capture and reproduce the bass guitar’s sound is a Custom vintage ’59 split single-coil pickup. This pickup is designed to provide the hard-hitting sound that Dirnt employs on Greed Day tracks. Basic controls for the volume and tone are provided along with other notable features including a side-mounted output jack, Badass Bass II bridge with chrome hardware and a custom Mike Dirnt neck plate.

The Squier Mike Dirnt Precision Bass was upgraded with some subtle aesthetic changes to better match the looks of early ’50s P-basses. The star graphic on the body is now moved to the neck plate, and the models now feature better looking pickguards – Pearloid for the black model and Tortoiseshell for the arctic white model.

The Mike Dirnt Road Worn Precision Bass has an MSRP of $1,499.99, while the Squier Mike Dirnt Precision Bass has an MSRP of $499.99. More information about the basses are available at Fender.
