As the 20th year of Gibson Custom draws to close, they introduce an accurate reissue of the 1959 Les Paul Standard.

20th Anniversary 1959 Les Paul Standard Reissue

The 20th Anniversary 1959 Les Paul Standard Reissue will have a limited run of 100 guitars, and is said to be the culmination of Gibson Custom’s experience.

According to Gibson, “many revised and rediscovered techniques” were utilized, and this resulted in a guitar that is much more closer to the original in terms of sound, feel, look.

Each of the 100 available guitars feature flame maple tops that were hand selected by veteran luthiers of Gibson Custom. These tops were picked because they match the specially designed Murphy Burst finish. The flame maple top is then paired with solid lightweight mahogany body that is cut into one of the most familiar guitar shapes of all time. The back and the neck are painted with red aniline dye to emphasize the burst finish.

The neck of the guitar is carved from a solid quarter-sawn mahogany wood, shaped to match the ’59 profile accurately. It is connected to the body via hot-hide neck glue and features a Historic truss rod assembly with no tubing. The fretboard is made from solid one-piece rosewood and features Nitrocellulose Trapezoid inlays. Both the body and the neck are wrapped by a single-ply cream binding that accurately mimics vintage ’59 Les Pauls.

The 20th Anniversary 1959 Les Paul Standard Reissue comes equipped with two Custom Buckers. These pickups are said to better capture the sonic qualities of the original guitars. Traditional controls are provided, four knobs that control tone and volume and a three way Switchcraft pickup selector. CTS potentiometers are used along with “bumble bee” tone capacitors to get as close as possible to the sound of vintage ’59 LPs.

As expected, all the hardware of this guitar are period-correct, including the reissue Kluson Deluxe green-key tuners, nickel plated ABR-1 Tune-o-matic bridge, and the lightweight aluminum stopbar tailpiece. The commemorative 20th Anniversary toggle switch access cover is also used on every guitar.

As expected from limited run instruments, each of the one hundred 20th Anniversary 1959 Les Paul Standard Reissue have an MSRP of $10,588. You can visit Gibson for the complete specifications and other details.
