Uli Jon Roth’s Sky Guitar has amazed guitar enthusiasts since it was created. Now Uli Jon Roth has teamed up with Dean Guitars to produce an ultra limited edition – total of 25 produced worldwide – Sky Guitar that Mr. Uli Jon Roth himself inspected and named.
While most of us are already dumbfounded by the vast musical landscape that an average 6 string guitar can give, Uli Jon Roth wanted to take the guitar to the next level. And so back in the 80’s he conceptualized a guitar that was advanced in both appearance, playability and sound. The Sky Guitar was soon born, having a frets going up to six octave ranges, scalloped fingerboard, 80db of output and a shape that is unconventional and yet easily identifiable.
A lot of guitar manufacturers have tried to create Sky Guitars for Uli Jon Roth but the prototypes were just not meeting his standard. Until a few years ago when Elliot “Dean” Rubinson was able to convince Uli to join forces with Dean guitars to recreate the “Mighty Wing” guitar and sound. Uli Jon Roth was flown to Florida with his original “Mighty Wing” Sky Guitar which was used as the basis for the 25 Sky Guitars that were produced.
According to Dean Guitars, “no expense was spared to create this guitar which will initially be available to only 25 players or collectors.” Each of these guitars will be inspected, approved and even named by Uli John Roth.
The Sky Guitars feature the Mega Wiring pickup system which has not been available anywhere up to now. This is a low impedance system with sophisticated EQ. It is designed to Uli’s specifications along side John Oram of England.
