The G&L 2012 Special Collection are guitars that highlight their natural look, featuring G&L’s thin “Nearly Naked” (NENA) finish.
This new transparent finish technique allows the guitar’s wood grain to shine shine while its natural wood texture is highlighted.
Three G&L guitar models were given the 2012 Special Collections treatment. These guitars feature two-piece swamp ash bodies that are coated in a thin NENA honey ale finish.
This Nearly Naked finish is a unique proprietary technique by G&L that allows for a more naturally balanced appearance compared to conventional staining techniques. G&L claims that their thin NENA finish allows you to feel the natural texture of the wood, and at the same time provide durable protection.
All the guitars are paired with a matching NOS Baltic Amber pickguard. Other common features include eastern maple necks with rosewood fingerboards and PLEK fret dressing.
Here are the guitars included in the G&L 2012 Special Collection:
2012 Special Collection ACSAT Classic S
This is a three pickup configuration, modernized Telecaster to make it versatile as requested by musicians. It comes equipped with S-500 Magnetic Field Design pickups or MFD that were created by Leo Fender to provide improved response. MSRP: $1,900.
2012 Special Collection S-500
This is G&L’s modern take on the classic Stratocaster design, replacing the noisy alnico pickups with Leo Fender’s MFD pickup system. The guitar also features a mini-toggle switch to allow for a neck+bridge or all-three pickup combinations. MSRP: $1,650.
2012 Special Collection Legacy
This is a guitar that bears the traditional Stratocaster shape and configuration, and is equipped with classic Alnico V pickups to please the vintage-correct purists. The pickup is based on G&L’s extensive research on the pickups of great sounding vintage strats. MSRP: $1,550.
