The guitar is a Fret-King Blue Label Esprit 3. It was signed by the artists and bands that performed at the last sold-out show “Tribute Concert for Kirsty MacColl” which happened at London’s Shepherd’s bush Empire last October 10, 2010.

The guitar comes with the original padded softcase and is as good as new. It was only handled by the artists on the said event. The profits that will be raised from this auction will go to music education equipment and instruments for the students in Cuba.

For those that are not familiar with Kirsty MacColl, she was a popular singer songwriter in the 80’s and 90’s era. Her death is still surrounded by controversy up to this day. While swimming at a secluded supposed to be boat free area, she was hit by a fast moving speed-boat while saving her son. She was able to push her son away from danger but did not have enough time to avoid the boat. The driver of the boat was punished but later paid a small bail. There are claims however that the rich owner of the boat was the one actually driving, he steered the boat to where it was not supposed to be, which led to the unfortunate accident.

The artists and Kirsty’s band members that signed on the guitar are:

  • Catherine Tate
  • Billy Bragg

  • Boz Boorer

I just had a look at the auction – it’s only been going less than 1 day and the bids are over US$1000 already!

Let’s hope it doubles for the sake of Kirsty’s memory and the children it will help.
