This guitar sports a ’50s era vintage-style neck profile for classic feel and playability – a first for EVH Wolfgang guitar models.
The body of the guitar is carved into the modern double cutaway shape that Van Halen popularized. It has a 1.5″ thick mahogany back and paired with a 0.5″ thick arched maple top. The body is wrapped by an aged white/black/white binding to emphasize the shape and to add some vintage vibe to this modern looking instrument.
This particular model comes in either Vintage burst, Black or Gold finishes. As shown on the accompanying image, the Gold has quite the looks!
The neck of the guitar is also made from mahogany, topped by a fretboard made from ebony. It has 22 frets with pearl trapezoid block inlays. Fretboard radius is 12″ to 16″ and nut width is 1.6875″. The guitar follows the standard scale length of 25.5″ and features white binding on the neck.
Two Direct Mount Wolfgang Zebra Humbuckers are tasked to reproduce EVH’s famous brown sound. Controls are kept simple, providing a 3-way toggle switch with independent volume and tone knobs for each pickup. Two Bourn 500K low-friction volume potentiometers and two Bourns 250K high-friction tone potentiometers were installed for improved tone shaping.
Other hardware include dual graphite neck reinforcement rods, bone nut and TonePro TP6 bridge with stop tailpiece. A more expensive “Relic” version is also available, featuring heavy-relic simulated wear and tear and a Floyd Rose R2 locking nut with Schaller fine tuning tailpiece.
