The guitar now holds the Guinness World Record as the most expensive guitar ever created, and is currently on display at the 2015 Baselworld international trade fair for jewelry and watches at Switzerland. Even more interesting than its $2M price tag is how the guitar is getting a lot flak from guitarists online, many of which comment that the Diamond-Studded SG does not look as impressive as expected from it’s price tag.   The response from guitarists is quite ironic, especially since the guitar was designed and crafted by a group of arts and crafts specialists, which include sixty-two artisans, three product development specialists and two project managers. It is said that it took a total of 68 people and 700 man-days to complete the project!   Love it or hate it, the guitar did achieve what it was meant to accomplish, become an interesting centerpiece for Aaron Shum’s Coronet brand and become a Guinness World Records title holder.   Aaron Shum gave credit to the other parties that helped in completing his diamond guitar project and said, “We are very delighted to team up with Chow Tai Fook as Diamond Partner to sponsor high quality diamonds, and Gibson Brands as Sponsor, to create a CORONET Diamond Gibson Guitar, which is designed by Mr. Mark Lui, to attempt achieving Guinness World Records title.”   The guitar’s look follows its “Eden of Coronet” label, featuring diamond embellishments that are inspired by nature. It carries Coronet-flora motifs and other nature inspired designs, of which required 11,441 diamonds, that weighs a total of 401.15 carats set in 1.6 kilograms of 18-karat white gold.   Gibson Brands CEO and Chairman Henry Juszkiewicz concluded, “We are pleased to work with Coronet of Aaron Shum Jewelry and Mr. Mark Lui on this remarkable showpiece. This collaboration proves our commitment to excellence in design and the craftsmanship of this masterpiece. The masterpiece is a joint effort of three distinct brands. The creativity comes from the process of blending ideas and cultures from different industries, which further solidifies Gibson beyond just a guitar brand. All along we’ve been striving to expand our business to different sectors of the consumer market and ‘Eden of CORONET’ is definitely an important milestone for what we target to achieve.”   After the 2015 Baselworld fair, the “world’s most valuable guitar” is going on a tour exhibition in major cities across Greater China. No mention of the guitar touring the US as of this time.   Related Articles: Peter Frampton “Phenix” 1954 Les Paul Custom Gibson Ron Wood L-5S best electric guitars Click here for our Top Electric Guitar Brands List!
