This special edition explorer will feature the same commemorative “120th Anniversary” banner inlay at the 12th fret as found on their other limited run releases that are related to this year’s anniversary celebration.

Gibson continues their limited run instrument releases, and it seems that they will not stop until they cover all their popular guitar models. The distinctive shape and appeal of the Explorer make it an easy addition to this commemorative line, and will be attractive to fans of the shape and collectors.

The guitar features an all-mahogany design, with a mahogany body cut to the radical angular profile of the Explorer. The glued-in neck is also made of mahogany carved into a slim profile that’s preferred by those that want to play fast. Matching the body shape and fast neck is the “angled” six-a-side Explorer headstock with a mother-of-pearl Gibson logo.

The slim profile neck is topped by a 22-fret rosewood fingerboard, a combination that Gibson is well known for. Note that the premium fretboard is carved from a single piece of rosewood, with a neck radius of 12″ and nut width of 1.695″. The fretboard has a white binding, while classic acrylic dot inlays guide your fretting hand. Rounding up the features of the neck is the commemorative “120th Anniversary” banner on the 12th fret.

Gibson equipped the Explorer 120 with a pair of Burstbucker Pro pickups. These are based on the original PAF humbuckers with mismatched coils. It is described to provide the characteristic bite and depth of vintage PAFs while having the performance and reliability of modern pickups. The two humbuckers are wired to a 3-way Switchcraft pickup selector, 2 volume controls and a master tone knob.

Gibson opted for a traditional bridge setup, equipping the guitar with a chrome Tune-o-matic bridge and stopbar tailpiece. On the other end of the strings are Mini Grover tuners.

The Explorer 120 is available in Heritage Cherry hand-sprayed high-gloss nitrocellulose lacquer finish. It comes protected in an elegant brown hardshell case. The MSRP for this limited edition guitar is $1,999. Visit Gibson for further details.
