Although not as popular as other signature models, the unique look of the Trini Lopez provides a breath of fresh air especially when viewing the company’s semi-hollow guitar line.

Gibson and American singer/guitarist Trini Lopez worked together in the early ’60s to design and produce the original Trini Lopez signature, and the guitars were in production from 1964 to 1971. Today, vintage Gibson Trini Lopez guitars are sought after and prized by professionals and collectors. Even Dave Grohl based his signature Gibson model from the Trini Lopez, and it ended up being well received and were quickly sold out!

Following up on its success, Gibson releases a limited run version that also carries some of the improvements that were implemented across their 2015 line of instruments. The elegant black finish of the Trini Lopez ES-335 Ebony 2015 will easily appeal to blues and rock players who are willing to pay the premium for a special run guitar.

The most distinct feature of the Trini Lopez signature is its six-a-side headstock, which is based on the Gibson Firebird. It provides a nice contrast to the usual three-a-side configuration that is prevalent in their semi-hollow body guitar line. It even comes with Kluson Six-on-a-Strap tuners: 60’s tuners that match the ones used on the original Trini Lopez model release.

Following traditional designs, the chambered double-cutaway body of the guitar is crafted from laminated 3-ply maple with poplar center. The guitar’s Diamond F-Holes will let you peek into the chambered body. Although they go against the usual italic “f” design, they still serve the same purpose while adding to the overall unique appeal of the instrument.

The Trini Lopez Ebony 2015 has a slim taper mahogany neck, topped by a rosewood fretboard. It has a scale length of 24.75″, nut width of 1.711″ and a 12″ fretboard radius. The fingerboard comes with 22 medium frets with split diamond inlays that serve as markers.

For the pickups, Gibson opted for two Burstbucker Pro humbucker pickups, described as “Historically accurate “Patent Applied For” replica with airy tone and unbalanced coils. Slightly under wound.” They are wired to a set of traditional controls, including a 3-way pickup selector and a total of four knobs that provide independent control over the volume and tone of the bridge and neck pickups.

Other features include rolled vintage neck binding and period-correct visual appointments. Finally, the guitar has a trapeze tailpiece with Rosewood insert that features the “Trini Lopez” badge, a feature that was carried over from the original release.

The new Gibson Trini Lopez ES-335 Ebony 2015 is currently retailing for $3,299, and only 200 are available worldwide. Visit Gibson for more information.
