Gretsch G5620T-CB Electromatic Center Block

Gretsch expands their thinline series with the new G5620T-CB Electromatic, featuring a solid spruce center block.

The interior center block runs along the length of the guitar, making the 1 and 3/4 inch thin semi-hollow body design more high-gain friendly.

The guitar's body is made from 5-ply maple and features the familiar Gretsch single cutaway shape. The top is arched to retain the look of a hollowbody, while having the playing comfort provided by a thin body. Instead of the usual f-holes, the guitar features "Cats-Eye" sound-holes that are bound just like the top, back and neck.

The neck of the guitar is also made of maple and topped by a rosewood fretboard. It has 22 medium jumbo frets with Neo-Classic Thumbnail position markers to guide your fretting hand. The guitar has a scale length of 24.6" and a comfortable nutwidth of 1.6875".

Tasked to reproduce "The Great Gretsch Sound" are two pickups, a Black Top Filter'Tron on the bridge position and the new Dual-Coil Super HiLo'Tron on the neck.

The new neck pickup is said to be voiced to produce a "clean, high-end sparkle with robust low-end, low-noise performance". It is designed to match the Black Top Fiter'Tron bridge nicely when in the middle position. The controls follow the usual Electromatic pattern, independent volume and tone knobs for both pickups, a master volume and a 3-position toggle switch.

The video demo below shows the capabilities of the neck pickup quite nicely, showing it to be emphasizing the high frequencies while retaining the distinctive Gretsch low-end boom.

The guitar comes equipped with the usual Electromatic hardware, including a single-ply pickguard with logo, five "G-arrow" control knobs, Grover tuners, knurled strap retainer knobs, anchored Adjusto-matic bridge and a flat-handle Bigsby-licensed B70 vibrato.

The new G5620T-CB is available in 3 finishes - Georgia Green, Black and Rosa Red. It joins two other new additions to the Electromatic series, the Double-Jet G5655T-CB and the G5622T-CB Electromatic, all of them provide the same Gretsch aesthetics while providing more manageable feedback in high volume situations.

The Gretsch G5620T-CB Electromatic is currently retailing for $899.99. You can get the latest price & reviews at
