Ibanez JEM77WDP CNL

From the first iteration was released back in 1987, the Jem line continues to be among the most sought after signature guitar series in Ibanez’ line up, and this year Ibanez and Vai went for an interesting new look while retaining the playability and tone expected from a Jem.

This new release is part of the Ibanez Premium series, and as such it joins the company’s top tier line of instruments, and gives the Jem line a refreshing new look. What sets the Jem77WDP CNL apart is its earthy appeal, thanks to the rosewood top.

This elegant looking top is put on a mahogany body that follows the standard Jem shape, having the same double cutaway shape and grip cavity on the body. But it doesn’t end with just that because this model features a wooden pickguard that complements the top aesthetically, and matches the finish of the headstock. If that’s not enough, even the control knobs are crafted from wood, resulting in a more earthy overall appearance.

As usual, Ibanez takes the neck of their guitars seriously, so they put a 5pc wizard Maple/Walnut neck w/ KTS titanium rods on the Jem77WDP CNL. The fingerboard is crafted from rosewood, with 24 jumbo frets finished with their Premium Fret Edge treatment for smoother playability. Other key neck specs include scale length of 25.5″, nut width of 1.692″ and fingerboard radius of 15.748″. While cosmetic appointments include Tree of Life Inlay and a headstock finish that matches the finish of the pickguard.

Steve Vai chose to put two DiMarzio Dark Matter 2 humbucker pickups on the guitar, one at the bridge and at the neck, and both features decorative custom pickup covers, in keeping with the overall theme of the instrument. The middle position houses a DiMarzio Dark Matter 2 single-coil, completing the superstrat configuration HSH.

Other features include the Edge Zero II tremolo bridge, with its lower profile design that does not get in the way of your picking hand and arm. And all the metal hardware on the guitar come in cosmo black finish.

The new Ibanez Jem77WDP CNL has a list price of $2,266.65. For more information, you can head over to Ibanez.
