LTD Jeff Hanneman Tribute 2014
ESP Guitars pay tribute to the late Slayer guitarist Jeff Hanneman by releasing the limited edition LTD JH Tribute 2014 Urban Camo guitar.
LTD Ride The Lightning
This special commemorative model is limited to only 100 pieces worldwide, portions of the proceeds from the sales will benefit a charity that the Jeff supported, the Wounded Warrior Project.
This limited run instrument is based on the ESP Jeff Hanneman Urban Camo signature model, and is designed with the help of Jeff Hanneman's estate. This is the first time that an LTD guitar will sport the multi-toned gray/white/black “urban camouflage” finish of Hanneman’s ESP signature guitar.
ESP Guitar Company President and CEO Matt Masciandaro says, "Jeff Hanneman and Slayer helped define the entire genre of thrash metal guitar. He was a good friend to many of us at ESP, and his passing last year was a shock to us all. For his family and for Slayer fans around the world, we felt that commemorating his contributions to music and supporting the Wounded Warrior Project via this new model was an appropriate measure."
The LTD Jeff Hanneman Tribute 2014 has the same tonewoods, Super Strat shape, dual EMG humbuckers and overall aesthetics as Jeff's ESP model. And if you would compare the two, the only visual distinction would be the brand logo on the headstock. Instead of saying that the guitar is based on the ESP model, a better description for me is to say that it is a replica of the ESP model.
The guitar has a double cutaway alder body and a maple neck with a neck-thru design. It has a familiar 25.5" scale length and features an ebony fretboard with 22 frets. The same custom H Dagger inlays serve as fretmarkers, while the 12th fret has a special "1964-2013" inlay to commemorate Hanneman.
Like the ESP model, this guitar is equipped with dual active humbuckers from ESP, an EMG 81 on the bridge and an EMG 85 on the neck. It also has Jeff's preferred bridge, the Kahler Hybrid tremolo.
The press release concludes by saying, "Jeff Hanneman was a founding member of the influential thrash metal band Slayer, and was also one of the band’s primary songwriters. Along with fellow guitarist Kerry King and bassist/vocalist Tom Araya, Hanneman helped found Slayer in 1981 when the band members were still in their teens. His work as a guitarist and songwriter was of tremendous importance to the world of heavy metal music, and many guitarists count Hanneman among their key influences. An ESP endorsee since 2000, Hanneman’s untimely passing was on May 2, 2013 at age 49."
The LTD Jeff Hanneman Tribute 2014 is currently retailing online for around $1,900. Visit ESP Guitars for more information.
