This new release is part of the 1st anniversary celebration of the company’s S2 series, and is just one of three new semi-hollow models that will come out of this line.

The S2 Series was launched July of last year, serving as the brand’s mid-priced US-made instrument line. It appears that this new line that produces guitars within the PRS Stevensville facility have become successful enough to warrant more instruments. According to the press release, Paul Reed Smith Guitars are looking to create a complete guitar product line inside the S2 Series.

First in this new lineup is the S2 Mira Semi-hollow. Described as an instrument that went beyond the usual spin-off, but rather it has become a completely new guitar in itself, when compared to its solid body counterpart.

The guitar has a chambered mahogany body, that features the same double cutaway shape and angled edges of the original. It has a single f-hole on the upper bout that makes it easy to distinguish between the solidbody version and it also lets you peak into the semi-hollow cavity.

The neck of the guitar is made of mahogany and is topped by rosewood fretboard. Traditional bird inlays serve as markers on the guitars 22-fret fingerboard. It has a scale length of 25″ and features a “pattern regular” neck that is described as comfortable for the fretting hand.

The guitar’s PRS S2 Mira Treble and Bass pickups are said to be low output humbuckers. They are routed to the guitar’s 3-way pickup selector, the master volume knob and the push/pull tone knob that allows for single-coil type tones. The official description says that these pickups “create a warm, smoky harmonic richness that can overdrive to classic rock tones all with tremendous punch and clarity.”

Other hardware include nickel PRS Stoptail bridge, S2 Locking Tuners and a black pickguard. The painted headstock faithfully follows the distinctive shapes and lines of the PRS, completing the classic and elegant appeal of the instrument.

PRS Guitars President Jack Higginbotham says, “We are seeing a great interest in semi-hollow guitars across all of our product lines, from Private Stock custom pieces to the SE Zach Meyers, and we are as excited about these guitars as anything we’ve made so far inside of S2. They are harmonically rich, remarkably resonant, feel fantastic, and have a very cool, organic vibe. Like all the S2’s, the goal of these semi-hollow models is to bring inspirational, reliable, quality tools to players at a new PRS price point.”

The PRS S2 Mira Semi-Hollow is now available from authorized online resellers, with a retail price of $1,389.99. For more information, you can head over to PRS Guitars.
