Reverend Billy Corgan Signature BC-1

Reverend Guitars and Smashing Pumpkins' frontman unveil the new chambered body Billy Corgan Signature BC-1 guitar.

Reverend Billy Corgan Signature BC-1

This is an interesting team up, since both Reverend and Billy are not known for merely going with convention. The resulting guitar's unique yet somewhat familiar appeal is quite fitting for Corgan's distinct musical style.

Back in 2008, we reported on the release of the Billy Corgan Stratocaster, fast forward to today, we now bring you news of another signature guitar, but this time from a different company.

While Corgan had a lot of design inputs on this guitar, much about the BC-1 follows after Reverend's tried and tested design. It comes with a solid korina body that has a raised center section with thinner wings that complete its body shape.

What makes this guitar unique are the strategically placed chambers on the wings and under the pickguard, which reduce weight and resulting in semi-hollow like resonance. The company explains, "Korina (aka White Limba) is a medium lightweight wood, highly prized for consistency and tonal qualities. It is a key factor to producing our lively, responsive instruments that are rich in harmonics. On the BC-1 there are strategic chambers under the pickguard to add even more resonance and reduce weight." The chambers are covered by segmented aluminum pickguards, that give the guitar a modern "retro" appeal.

In keeping with the theme of improved sustain and resonance, the guitar comes with a string-thru body bridge, and are equipped with Railhammer Billy Corgan signature pickups that are described as having the snap of P90s and the chunck of humbuckers, without unwanted hum.

The neck and fingerboard of this guitar is crafted from maple, with specs that follow traditional Strat configurations including a 25.5 scale length, 22 medium jumbo frets, 43mm nut width, medium oval profile and a 12" fingerboard radius.

Other features of the new Billy Corgan Signature BC-1 include Pin-Lock tuners that lock the strings in place for tuning stability, low profile volume and tone knobs that don't get in the way of your playing, and it comes with Reverend's passive Bass Contour knob, which lets you tighten up the low end, or re-voice the pickups to your liking.

Check out the demo video below where Billy Corgan himself plays the BC-1 and shares some stories behind its design and production.

The new Reverend Billy Corgan Signature BC-1 has a list price of $1,439. For further details and complete specifications, you can visit Reverend Guitars.
