Reverend Sensei HB LE 2016

Reverend introduces their latest Limited Edition guitar, the new Sensei HB LE with Bigsby B-50 bridge.

Reverend Sensei HB LE

This guitar follows the original specs of the double cutaway Sensei HB, but with improved aesthetics and upgraded hardware to give it a premium look and improved playability.

Every year, Reverend Guitars have been releasing a Limited Edition model in time for fall season, and for 2016, they give the Sensei HB the premium treatment. Reverend CEO Ken Hass describes the guitar as “the sexiest Sensei ever Built”, retaining the distinct double cutaway look while incorporating additions that include a colored flame top, and a Bigsby bridge.

As expected from a Reverend made guitar, the Sensei HB LE starts off with a Korina wood body, cut into the company’s take on the familiar double cutaway shape. While it is inspired by classic designs, it is not your average clone because it has subtle shape modifications that make the guitar distinct, without going overboard. To give this version special aesthetics, Reverend added a top that’s carved from colored flame maple.

The 3-piece Korina neck follows after the profile of the regular version, with a graphite nut that is 1 11/16″ wide, and a scale length of 24.75″. The rosewood fingerboard has a total of 22 medium jumbo frets, and a fretboard radius of 12″. The neck is equipped with a dual-action truss rod for easier adjustments.

For the pickups, Reverend went with their Special H humbucking pickups, which they themselves custom design to match the guitar that they build. The bridge and neck pickup positions are tweaked to be different to accommodate the different tonalities expected from a neck and bridge humbucking pickup. The bridge is described as being slightly hotter than a vintage PAF, with its 44 gauge wire, ceramic magnet, and 13K ohms specification. The neck pickup is cleaner than a vintage PAF with an open tone for improved clarity, featuring 42 gauge wire, ceramic magnet at 6.5K ohms.

The pickups are wired to Reverend’s distinct electronics setup which include a 3-way pickup selector, volume and tone knobs, and a special bass contour knob. This bass contour knob has become a distinct feature found on Reverend guitars, a passive bass roll-off that can be used for tightening up the low end, or re-voicing the pickups. According to the company, “it can make a humbucker sound like a single-coil, or give a P-90 that classic twang.

Other features of this guitar include Reverend’s Pin-Lock tuners which lets you lock the tuners in place for improved tuning stability, and a Bigsby B-50 with roller bridge. Also, each of these Limited Edition models will have a bound headstock to add to its premium look.

The expected street price for the new Reverend Sensei HB LE is $1099, and it is available in a variety of finishes. For further details, you can head over to Reverend Guitars.
