Schecter Trad Custom

Schecter returns to its roots with the new Trad Custom, featuring classic Strat style with HSS pickup configuration.

Schecter Trad Custom

This new guitar is part of the company’s latest vintage style guitar releases, straying from their usual edgy and non-conventional designs, this time going for something more closer to the familiar Strat style design.

While the look is very similar to traditional Strats, there are subtle differences, which include the slightly modified headstock shape and the use of just two knobs, giving the guitar a familiar look that is still a bit different. The HSS pickup configuration is also an important distinction, although there are already other Strat style guitars that utilize this configuration. More importantly, this guitar comes with a very tempting street price, a feat that Schecter was able to accomplish without much compromise on the instrument’s specs.

The company says, “Designed for exemplary tone and functionality, the Trad Custom is the perfect tool for the most diverse of players to represent their craft.

Their statement highlights the functionality and versatility of this new release, achieved via the HSS pickup configuration. With its modern sounding Schecter Diamond Humbucker on the bridge position, this classic looking guitar can give you the same rock-friendly bridge sounds as their other Schecter models. For even more versatility, the tone knob features push/pull functionality that lets you split the humbucker to give you a single-coil sound at the bridge position when you want it. That’s an impressive flexibility option, especially for its price.

The other two pickups are Schecter single coil pickups that are tuned to reproduce the all too familiar quacky tone of the old school Strats. Because of the split-coil circuitry, you get the famous “in-between” pickup positions via the 5-way pickup selector, even with a humbucker on the bridge.

Another important difference of this guitar is the use of Swamp-ash with flamed maple top for the double cutaway body, instead of the usual alder. The body is paired with a bolt-on maple neck that is topped by a 21-fret rosewood or maple fingerboard. The fingerboard radius is 12″ while the scale length stays true to tradition at 25.5″. Other features of this guitar include Graph Tech Ivory Tusq nut, Locking 6-in-Line, and a Wilkinson WV2 Vintage Tremolo.

To give the flamed maple top more opportunity to shine, this guitar is available in Black Cherry Burst (BCHB) and Trans Black Burst (TBB) finishes. The Schecter Trad Custom is currently retailing for just under &600, visit Schecter Guitars for more information and to check out their other guitars.
