With all the guitar amp and effects modeling that Mac and iOS apps offer, Squier decided to create a guitar that integrates conveniently without the need for adapters.

The Stratocaster by itself is already versatile instrument, but Fender and Apple decided to add to the guitar’s innate flexibility by giving it built-in USB and iOS connectivity. The result is the new Squier USB Stratocaster Guitar, which would have been cooler if named as the “Apple iStrat”.

Stripping off its added electronics, the core of this guitar is a regular Squier Stratocaster with a three pickup H-S-S configuration. It has the same double cutaway shape, bolt-on neck and follows the same outward appearance. It has a regular 1/4″ output for plugging into your amp. Tone control is achieved by switching pickups and by adjusting the volume and tone knobs.

What makes this guitar unique is its built-in audio interface and headphone amp, which gives you a stereo headphone out, headphone volume control and a Mini-B USB connector. This connection lets you record your guitar playing straight into your iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, or Mac. It is also designed to allow bi-directional audio streaming which lets you monitor the processed guitar signal directly from the guitar itself.

Fender came up with a cool promotional video, you can watch it here:

Surprisingly, this guitar is only available through the Apple Store, and is currently available for $199.95. For the complete specifications of the Squier USB Stratocaster Guitar, you can head over to Apple Store.
