Ax facts and Stats : All Time Low’s Alexander Gaskarth

Welcome to AFS vol.55 with All Time Low's Alaxander William Gaskarth. ATL is currently on the road as part of the Rock Star Energy Drink AP (Alternative Press) tour line-up, and they are also part of the MTV-U Campus Invasion Music Festivals lineup in support of their current release "So Wrong, It's Right" featuring the smash hit "Dear Maria Count Me In".

This Pop-punk force from Lutherville-Timonium, Maryland and was also listed in Alternative Press magazine's annual survey as one of the "Bands You Need to Know in '07". All Time Low is one of my favorite new artists and I highly suggest catching these guys live when they hit your town!

Self proclaimed internet romance expert.

My current job is:
I sing and play guitar in the band All Time Low.

My hometown:
Baltimore, MD.

So Wrong, Its Right

Former bands:
Ex-tambourine player for Josie and the Pussycats

My guitar influences growing up were:
Tom Delonge (Blink 182), Jimmy Eat World, Metallica

The guitars I use are:
For now, an '87 Gibson Les Paul Standard and 3 Gibson SG-X's (Coral Pink, Sea-foam Green and Sunshine Yellow)

The strings and tunings I use are:
Ernie Ball Regulars (11 gauge), Tunings: Standard, Drop-D, DADGAD. We tune down a half-step live.

My current rig setup consists of:
Mesa Boogie Stiletto Ace (50W) and a Mesa 4x12 cab.

The greatest invention for guitars is:
Whammy Pedal.

My normal songwriting process consists of:
Brainstorming, Garage Band, Alcohol, A knack for pop music, and Luck

Favorite all-time song (any artist) is:
Futures - Jimmy Eat World

Favorite song by our band:
Dear Maria, Count Me In

Favorite song to perform in front of a live audience:
Poppin' Champagne.

My Career highlight thus far is:
Performing on Jimmy Kimmel.

I ripped the crotch of my pants from front to back during a show once. It was pretty funny though.

Other than my guitar and amps, the one piece of my gear that I cannot live without is:
Tuner Pedal!

The first song I ever mastered on guitar:
Smells Like Teen Spirit - Nirvana

My first guitar was:
Some weird, red Yamaha thing... $75. It sounded awesome. I wish I still knew where it was.

If I am only sure of one thing in life, It's:
That it’s meant to be lived!

The one ritual I always perform prior to going on stage is:
Virgin sacrifice.

The exact moment I knew I would pursue a career in music was:
After watching Blink-182's "The Urethra Chronicles 2" DVD.

The one thing most fans don't know about me is:
That I'm a huge nerd. I love fantasy novels, comics and video games. I can probably name all 150 pokemon.

The best advice I could give beginning guitarists:
To quote Journey, "Don't stop believing'!"

Warped Tour 2007 - DC - Main Stage - Thousands of dirty, sweaty, screaming kids!

Favorite junk food:
Our drummer's mom makes the best brownies.

My biggest pet peeve:
People grabbing/touching my hair unexpectedly.

The word or catch phrase I say too much is:
Dude, Sick. Bad, bad habit.

The hardest part of my job:
Staying level headed and not losing track of reality in all the commotion.

The first thing I do when I come home from touring is:
Eat a home-cooked meal!

Previous or first day job:
Audio Engineer's assistant at Polk Audio.

Right after this interview I'm going to:
Touch myself.

I couldn't imagine being on the road without:
My band.

If I wasn't doing the musician thing, I could really see myself working as:
A veterinarian.

Favorite movie:
The Fifth Element

My mission in life:
Visit space.

My guilty pleasure band or artist:
Justin Timberlake... Though I don't really feel guilty about it; he's great.

My next goal is:
Tour Japan.
