Nickel plated strings have long been the favorite of rock and country players. Thanks to the steel core and nickel wrap, these type of strings are highly magnetic, resulting in clear and articulate sounds when plucked. Now Dean Markley improves upon this successful formula by adjusting the core-to-wrap ratio.
The new NickelSteel Electric utilizes nickel plated steel, meticulously wound at a special ratio over a hex core. According to Dean Markley: “By crafting the wrap wire over a hex core, the wrap wire is able to provide 100% contact with the core insuring maximum transfer of tone and sustain. The additional benefit of a unique core-to-wrap ratio helps guitarists bend strings more easily while maintaining proper tension and staying in tune during performance.”
While being manufacturerd, the wrap wire is electroplated with pure nickel. Nickel resists oxidation better and provides a soft surface to reduce fretwear and improve playing comfort. The steel core provides the strength and sonic output, which together with the nickel plating helps balance out the overall tone.
