Griffin Technology unveils their upcoming dual channel iPad dock for music recording, the Griffin StudioConnect HD.
This interface will turn your iPad into a mobile studio, able to capture up to two audio sources simultaneously.
This audio interface doubles as an iPad dock and is the upgraded version of Griffin’s StudioConnect dock. It follows the same simple docking and integration design as the current generation docks, but will come with expanded input and output options, as well as two channels for convenient recording. Microphone and instrument friendly features will also be available.
Like the original, StudioConnect HD comes with a simple but efficient docking design that allows you to place the iPad on top of the unit without having to take of the case. This simplicity makes the unit appealing for many iPad users that utilize cases – securing your iPad quickly and connecting it efficiently. Since the unit connects to the iPad via a cable, it will work with both 30-pin and lightning connectors.
The unit features upgrade audio interfacing hardware, most notably the two combo–jack inputs that work with line, mic or instruments – i.e. guitars! Each input has their own gain adjustment knobs and both are capable of providing 48v of phantom power to microphones that need them. The output volume is controlled by a bigger knob, which will normally be connected to headphones via the minijack output port.
More connectivity options are provided at the back of the unit, including RCA line level outputs for connecting to external monitors. Other ports include 5-pin MIDI input and output as well as USB in and out for MIDI instruments that only have USB connection. Finally, the Studio Connect HD audio interface is also designed to work with your computer via a regular USB cable.

The Griffin Studio Connect HD is scheduled to be released early next year. They are are expecting the price tag to be around $149.
