IK Multimedia unveils the latest iteration of their popular guitar audio interface, iRig 2, with updated features and Android compatibility.

With newer Android phones finally having the capability to process audio with lower latency, mobile guitar adapter manufacturers can now make their devices compatible with the popular mobile operating system, and as expect IK Multimedia would be among the first to take advantage.

iRig 2 ushers in a new era of mobile guitar processing and recording, with improved convenience where a single compact adaptor will work with virtually all major devices, be it iPhone, iPad, iPod Touch, Android phone, Android tablet, Mac or PC.

Being a sequel to the widely popular iRig and iRig HD, this new audio interface carries over the best features of its predecessors including plug and play operation, low latency processing, compact form factor, and compatibility with virtually all audio processing software.

As expected, this next generation interface introduces some nifty improvements over its predecessor, streamlining the design further. The most notable of which is the addition of a 1/4″ output for connecting into an amplifier without the need for adaptors. Combined with software like AmpliTube and other amp modeling app/software, iRig 2 will simplify setup and connectivity exponentially, and I dare say that many of the bulky hardware effects and amps that we use today will become even more easier to bypass.

Android compatibility is another welcome addition, the company says “iRig 2 is now widely compatible with Android smartphones and tablets. Its 1/8″ output connector is compatible with many popular Android devices produced by manufacturers like Samsung, LG, Motorola, HTC and more – any device with an 1/8″ input that supports the CTIA/AHJ wiring standard works with iRig 2. Additionally, users with Android devices that support Samsung Professional Audio can enjoy AmpliTube for Android, a special version of the popular multi-effects processor that brings a full spread of meticulously modelled virtual gear to the Android platform.”

Another addition to iRig is the dual mode switch, setting it to FX will let you send the processed signal to the amplifier’s 1/4″ output, while THRU mode sends a clean signal so you can use your mobile device as a tuner, recorder and other utility without affecting your instrument signal. Other new features include a new input gain thumbwheel and a removable support with velcro strip for easy mounting on a mic or music stand.

The new iRig 2 interface is scheduled for release within the 1st quarter of 2015, with an expected retail price of just under $40 (excl. taxes). Visit IK Multimedia for further information.
