Preview of upcoming EMG pickups
Based on the EMG-81 and launching at NAMM, the new EMG-81TW pickup gives players added versatility and the choice of the original EMG-81 dual coil sound and a single coil sound, all in the same pickup. By utilising dual active preamps, the well-known dual coil sound can be easily accessed while the new single coil sound may be selected via the push/pull pot provided.
The second new product, this one based on the EMG-P, the EMG-PA bass pickup utilises Alnico magnets to replace the more ‘modern’ sounding ceramic magnets. Another feature is the coils, short and squat like original Fender style coils. With two models available, the first – the V.01, uses a solid magnet under the strings giving the sound a more direct attack. While both designs have higher headroom and the quietness associated with EMG active pickups, the second version – the V.02, uses pole pieces staggered each side of the strings for a more traditional sound.
Based on the company’s successful active EMG-707 model designed for 7-string guitars, the new EMG-707TW not only offers players the familiar dual coil sound of the former, but also has the added advantage of single coil mode incorporated in the same pickup. Utilising the company’s exclusive triple coil arrangement and dual internal preamps for two pickups in one, the EMG-707TW employs Alnico magnets throughout the design. All of these pickups include EMG’s exclusive Quik-Connect cable, pre-wired push/pull volume/tone set, output jack, battery clip set, screws and springs.
