This new signature pickups are designed to satisfy the attack, clarity and increased headroom demands of 7 and 8-string rock and metal players like Dino.

Cazares is a long time collaborator of Seymour Duncan, he co-designed the EMG 707 back in 1996 and the Blackout pickups in 2007, both of which continue to be popular replacement pickups for metal and heavy rock style guitar players. With the ever increasing popularity of 7 and 8 string guitars, Dino is once again commissioned to co-create a new pickup model for these extended range guitar, the result is the new Retribution pickup.

To achieve the sound that Dino Cazares was looking for, Seymour Duncan developed a specially tuned preamp that according to the company has “just the right amount of gain, enhanced attack definition and maximum string clarity”.

This new active humbucker follows the standard set by the Blackouts series, described as having a powerful tone that retains its organic open sound. Seymour Duncan also noted that noise level is also set lower while dynamic response compared to other active pickups were improved.

The Retribution pickup is all set to install right out of the box, with the wiring schematics and all necessary mounting hardware bundled, including pots, stereo jack, and battery clip. If you prefer to pair the Retribution with another pickup, you can buy choose to get the bridge or neck pickup separately. Complete calibrated sets for 7-string guitars and 8 string guitars in “soap bar” form are also available should you want to replace both of your pickups and better appreciate the tone difference that the Retribution
brings.

Dino Cazares says, “It has a richer tone that’s more evenly voiced so the low string is not fighting with the high string. It’s a very crunchy sound, great for low tunings. It has more articulation in the pick attack and the distortion has less unwanted noise and compression.

According to the company, the main design objective of the Retribution is to maintain the definition of the low B and F# strings of extended range guitars. It is the same pickup used on the new Dino Cazares signature Ibanez DCM100 7-string. Finally, each Retribution is wound and assembled at the company’s Santa Barbara, California facility.
