Montreal Guitar Grand Prix – is your playing up to speed?

Canadian based Godin Guitars is proud to once again present this years Montreal Guitar Grand Prix. In its 6th year, this free event is open to guitarists of all ages and takes place on October 1st and 2nd 2011.

Montreal Guitar Grand Prix

The Festival International de Jazz de Montréal, whose mission it is to encourage music making among the masses, established the Montreal Guitar Grand Prix to promote and develop the talents of local guitarists and allow them to showcase their musical ability on stage in front of a live public audience.

The contestants are asked to perform in a maximum of 2 categories of their choice, which include: Classical, Acoustic (fingerstyle or flatpicking), Jazz (archtop or gypsy) and Blues/Rock. Prizes include thousands of dollars worth of musical equipment supplied by Godin Guitars, Steve’s Music Store, Marshall Amplification, Digitech and Samson audio technology, and also by the Montreal Guitar Show and the Festival International de Jazz de Montreal.

The preliminary auditions take place over the 2-day event, in front of a panel of judges, at the Savoy du Metropolis in Montreal. The final auditions will be held before an audience at L’Astral (Maison du Festival Rio Tinto Alcan) on Sunday, October 2, beginning at 8:00 p.m. The three finalists selected for each category during the preliminary auditions will compete in the final auditions. The final performances and preliminary auditions are free and doors are open to the public, who are encouraged to come and cheer on all of the talented musicians.



Categories and Audition times:

  • Classical : Saturday, October 1st – 9:30 am
  • Blues/ Rock : Saturday, October 1st – 1:00 pm
  • Acoustic (fingerstyle or flatpicking) : Sunday, October 2nd – 9:30 am
  • Jazz (archtop or gypsy) : Sunday, October 2nd – 1:30 pm

The 6th edition of the Montreal Guitar Grand Prix is presented by Godin Guitars in collaboration with Steve’s Music Store, Planete Jazz 91.9 radio station, Montreal Guitar Show and the Festival International de Jazz de Montréal.
