Slash - Guitar Center - State Line Empire

The unsigned band State Line Empire won Guitar Center’s "Your Next Record with Slash" competition and now their single "Drive Me" has been released.

The idea behind this competition was that Guitar Center enlisted the help of Slash to find a great unsigned rock band and give them a big break.

They ended up with over 12,000 entries, so I'm guessing Slash didn't listen to them all personally, but I'll bet he played a significant role in selecting State Line Empire as the winner - they're a genuine rock band somewhat reminiscent of Guns N Roses.

Slash said he wanted to find a real rock band, and after listening to "Drive Me", I believe he succeeded.

In addition to winning a 4 song EP recorded with record producer Mike Clink (Guns N’ Roses, Mötley Crüe, Megadeth), and having Slash play on the single, the total prize package won by State Line Empire also includes:

  • A management development deal with “The Collective”
  • $10,000 worth of gear from Guitar Center
  • An Endorsement deal from Ernie Ball Music Man
  • An opening slot on Slash’s Monster Energy Bash
  • An editorial feature in Guitar World Magazine
  • Promotion from iTunes

Slash's lead guitar on "Drive Me" certainly stands out, and there's no doubt that having him play on their single will deliver State Line Empire a much wider audience than they wouldn't otherwise get, but I can't help wondering if fans will be disappointed when they don't hear the same Slash sound on the other tracks - time will tell.

You can listen to "Drive Me" on the bands MySpace page at www.myspace.com/statelineempire and you can buy it for 99 cents at Amazon.

in slash's interview, slash said that the guitar lead was already that good and strong, and really did not have to be re-done by slash, but it was part of the
