The Smithsonian Associates and Martin Guitars are presenting “Beatles, Wings and Six-String: An Evening of Acoustic Guitar” featuring renowned Grammy Award-winning, guitar virtuoso Laurence Juber, one-night-only, Thursday, June 3rd at the Smithsonian Museum of Natural History.
Acoustic guitar aficionados are in for a treat during an evening that will showcase one of America’s favorite instruments and feature a concert performance by guitarist Laurence Juber. Hosted by the Smithsonian’s Randall Kremer and presented by Dick Boak, archivist for Martin Guitar, Juber will discuss his work composing, recording, and performing as the lead guitarist with Paul McCartney in his band Wings and his own successful solo career.
Boak will speak and present an interactive history of the 177-year-old guitar company, as well as showcase several vintage, historically significant guitars including instruments spanning the collection from the museum at Martin Guitar featuring a 1927 Ditson, 60s era D-28, early 1830s Martin Stauffer, 00-21 from the turn of the century, a recently acquired 000-42 as well as artist signature models. A book and CD signing with Juber and Boak is slated to follow the event.
Juber embarked on a career as a solo artist, composer, and arranger after years spent playing lead guitar with Paul McCartney in his band Wings. He is a guitar virtuoso whose solo albums include LJ Plays the Beatles, one of Acoustic Guitar magazine’s all-time top recordings.
Boak, long-time Martin Guitar employee and author of Martin Guitar Masterpieces and Martin Guitars: A History, is a woodworker, guitar designer and builder, draftsman, Martin's public relations liaison, artist, guitarist, and is responsible for some of the most unique collaborates with top celebrity guitarists to design and build the finest instruments made at C.F. Martin & Co.
