Kirk's Weekly Guitar Lesson: Danny Boy

Hi, fellow twanger ... I hope you're well.

This week I've done a nice simple, but interesting, arrangement of that old nugget 'Danny Boy'. As corny as it may seem, it is in fact a beautiful piece of music, the epitome of an Irish ballad. I've done it in the key of G (our favorite).

Other new lessons

Contributing member Fretsource has posted a very comprehensive lesson on reading and writing standard notation, something we should all be fluent with ... I certainly wish I could! Solidwalnut, aka Steve Cass, has also posted a few new lessons. The best way to find them is to consult the list of lessons he has posted.

38,000 members and still growing! What a freindly, helpful and civil bunch of twangers we are, too. If you have a question about any aspect of playing, fixing, buying, setting up, tuning, practicing ... anything at all, I can guarantee you'll get your answer within a very short while. If you're an experienced player, please feel free to join in and help out. The aim is to get the whole world twanging away.

PlaneTalk - The Truly Totally Different Guitar Instruction Book

How can I put it his week? My book / DVD continue to demystify both music and the fretboard. I spent the best part of twenty years searching for the one bottom-line, distilled lowest common denominator that I could use to navigate my way through the world of Guitar Music. Playing guitar is a tricky business, that's for sure, what with music's odd structure and the guitar's weird tuning. PlaneTalk will show you a very simple way to negotiate it all, a sort of 'big picture' view of it all that allows you (with lots and lots of practice) to literally see what you hear and hear what you see.

Read some of the many testimonials here; Read more on the PlaneTalk the book/DVD here.

Slide Guitar in Standard and Dropped-D Tunings

If you like a slow blues and played on slide guitar, check out the new movie I did this week. If you'd like to learn everything I know about the art, order the 70 minute DVD I produced showing just that. I leave no stone unturned. Read more about the DVD and how to order here.

That's about it from me for this week, until next time,

Kirk Lorange
