Kirk's Weekly Guitar Lesson: Slinky A Minor
Hi, fellow picker. It's been a while, I know.
I've got a neat new lesson for you. I call it 'Slinky A Minor'. It's got all kinds of elements to it: a walking bass line, rhythm plucks, hammer-on/pull-offs, single note runs, timing changes. It's not for total beginners, but it's not too challenging either ... just enough to make it interesting. It's got a nice slinky feel too. A "spicy meatball' as one member put it.
PlaneTalk - The Truly Totally Different Guitar Instruction Book
My book/DVD which reveals the easiest way to turn your whole fretboard into familiar, friendly territory and how to improvise without once thinking about scales or modes or pentatonics continues to shed blinding light on these subjects and much more to twangers from all over the World. This is what Vivek from India wrote me a couple of weeks ago:
"Hi Kirk Got the book & DVD couple days back.... you've put into 2 hours of lessons what i couldn't figure out in nearly 20 years. Your approach simply blew me away. It's brought the fun back into playing. Thanks for putting it together. You rule! Regards," ~~~ Vivek
Or this one from Adam:
"Just wanted to report that I'm getting a lot out of your PlaneTalk package. Very nicely done! As a guitar player for 33 years and a slide player for about 4, I'm one of your "classic" customers that just couldn't get out of the pentatonic box. I've had PlaneTalk for about a week and I'm all over the fretboard. What a difference your system has made in my ability to express myself on the guitar, and it's getting better and easier everyday. Thank you for taking the time to put it all together, and in such a clear and clever way. The comic strip format is great (and funny!), the dvd is a perfectly paced visual compliment, and the slide rule... what a handy tool. I'm very happy with it and grateful that you've made it available. Thank you, Kirk." ~~~ Adam
The other thing my customers love is the PlaneTalkers' Forum you can join once you've ordered the package. We discuss the simple technique on a daily basis, upload backing tracks to work over, improvisations for critique.
Find out all about it here.
Guitar for Beginners and Beyond Community
We're nearing 50,000 members! That's a whole lot of twangers. A great bunch they are too, so if you're looking for advice, chit chat, a place to upload your playing for appraisal, lessons ... come and join up and join in. You won't find a friendlier guitar forum out there.
I've compiled all the finger-style lessons into a very practical PDF format which you can buy now on a CD, so no more waiting for downloads, no more scattered files. They all come with movies, tab, midi, mp3, commentary and Guitar-Pro file. They work out to about $1.30 per lesson, so it's great value. If you're into finger-style, it'll keep you busy for months. Slide Guitar in Standard and Dropped D Tunings
As you probably know by now, I just love slide guitar, and I don't do the usual 'tune to an open tuning', I just leave it in standard or drop that bass string down. You'd be surprised what a great tuning standard is for slide ... it's a sort combo of mini open tunings, all sitting side by side, once you know how to look. Have a listen to my tune "Georgina", which has been top 5 in the Blues General charts for several months now at Soundclick ... most of time sitting at #1. I teach everything I know about the art in my 70 minute DVD, which you can read about and order here. I also sell the most beautiful heavy brass slides going, made to my specs.
That's it from me for this week, I'll be back soon.
Kirk
