Music Industries Association or MIA in partnership with NAMM hosted the recently concluded MIA Music Awards at the Marriot Grosvenor Square Hotel in London.

Various awards were given away to deserving brands and personalities that have made 2011 an exciting year for the music business and for music in general. Our favorite instrument, the guitar is well represented this year and we see a number of deserving guitar related brands and personas given their awards.

The 2011 Living Legend award was handed to the man behind the Orange brand, Cliff Cooper. Since launching the Orange brand in the 60’s he has been a prominent figure in the music business and has been leading the instantly recognisable Orange picture frame cabinets and helping create the distinctive Orange amplifiers sound.

Cliff Cooper was quoted: “I am very honoured to have been presented this prestigious award and while I feel very humbled at receiving this, I could not have achieved what I have today without the fantastic team behind me and I would also like to dedicate this award to everyone at Orange Amplification as well.”

Other Guitar related MIA Music Awards winners:

  • The Yamaha C40 Classical Guitar took home the Best Stringed instrument award under the Classical Category. My first classical guitar was a Yamaha C40, so I am a bit biased when I say that this is a nice guitar for beginners.
  • The Amplifier of the year award went to Blackstar HT-1R, a small amp that delivers big sounds.
  • Acoustic Guitar of the Year was awarded to the Vintage VE2000GG Gordon Giltrap Signature Guitar. It is a recreation of a hand-crafted guitar made in 1980 that Gordon plays today.
  • The guys at Line 6 took home the coveted Electric Guitar of the Year award for their work on the James Tyler Variax JTV-69. It was designed to combine the quality of boutique guitars with the flexibility of Line 6 modeling technology.
