In their biggest move towards modernization, Manuel Rodriguez & Sons installed hundreds of solar panels on their factory at Toledo, Spain – producing 100 kW of energy.

The installation of solar panels on the factory’s 10,000m2 roof started three months ago. The 106 year old guitar manufacturer now utilize up to 80% of that energy to build their guitars. But it doesn’t end there, the company plans to add even more solar panels.

Manuel Rodriguez III was quoted saying: “We now plan to expand every two years until we get to 300kW or more – we have a very big roof with loads of space!”

To take their efficiency a step further, the firm, which is now in its third generation of family ownership, is about to introduce a biomass heating system to their factory. This is a technology that will produce heat for their factory through the burning off their own waste products, without the need to waste more fossil fuels.

The guitar manufacturer is also in the two-year process of applying for Wood Certification from the internationally-recognized FSC or Forest Stewardship Council. They will inspect and guarantee that the instruments produced in their factory is assembled from sustainable sources.

To set an example, Manuel Rodriguez III himself goes to work using a sustainable, eco-friendly vehicle. He has a hybrid Toyota Prius fitted with roof solar panels.

Manuel Rodriguez Guitars are known for their traditional classical guitars. They have been creating guitars for many years, and they offer guitars that cover all price ranges. Their move towards having a modern and eco-friendly manufacturing factory is a commendable action which all guitar manufacturers should follow and implement.
