Do you want to know a secret? In honor of the recent Beatles remasters, we want to tell you about nailing those incendiary Fab Four tones with their gear all together now. To make your guitar gently weep like Lennon and Harrison, all you need is Rickenbacker and Vox. After the gig you've got to hide that ax away, so don't forget to add a case or gig bag. Dig it. Thanks to Hofner basses, the thump and grind of yer blues can now be heard across the universe.
This Week's Featured Items:
Rickenbacker 360/12
Rickenbacker is synonymous with the bell-like, jangling tones of 12-string guitar. George Harrison is one of the most famous adherents of this historic instrument, receiving it as a gift on their 1964 US tour, and going on to use it on A Hard Day's Night. The Ric's tone on that album was hugely influential, inspiring no less a folkie icon than Roger McGuinn of the Byrds. Ric is also a very traditional company, and aside from a few build enhancements over the years, such as a slimmed and re-contoured neck profile, this is the same guitar that made history so many years ago.
Hofner Icon B
Paul McCartney is widely acknowledged as one of the most prolific and accomplished songwriters in pop history. He was also a beast of a bassist, as you can hear even on the earliest Beatles recordings. The Hofner 500/1 was his first bass guitar, and its endearingly resonant tone made it a staple from their earliest days in Hamburg to their last show on the roof of Abbey Road, and even to his shows today! The Icon B is the most affordable way to get the distinctive semi-hollow ring of Hofner.
