Jerry Donahue

Jerry Donahue has awed guitarists for years with his jaw-dropping technique and is best known as one third of the revolutionary guitar trio the Hellecasters. The late, great Danny Gatton once referred to him as "the string-bending king of the planet.” In Country Tech, Jerry demonstrates the techniques which have earned him the reputation as being one of the world’s most respected guitarists. With up-close camera shots and on-screen music graphics, Jerry breaks down his inexplicable style, which incorporates pedal-steel style bends, hybrid picking, and behind-the-nut bends with tasty licks, double stops, glisses, slurs, and soulful vibrato. Also included is a note-for-note transcription of his incredible guitar extravaganza, “The Break.”

Frank Gambale

Frank Gambale is celebrated for his infamous improvisational stylings. This DVD follows the success of Gambale’s first acoustic trio recording, Natural High, featuring Otmaro Ruiz on piano, Alain Caron on bass, and Gambale on acoustic guitar. After blowing through seven jaw-dropping performances with his world-class band, Gambale sits down for a candid one-on-one session about jazz improvisation, utilizing a series of ideas for improvising over classic II-V progressions using 3rds and 7ths, chord extensions, Phrygian mode, super Locrian mode, and diminished ideas. Gambale incorporates rhythmic and melodic motifs and much more.

Special features include a DVD-ROM with the complete video formatted for computer or i-Pod, printable PDF files of all the songs and music examples, previews of other Frank Gambale DVDs, and a preview of Johnny A.’s DVD Taste • Tone • Space. Songs include Fortune • Another Challenger • We’ll Remember December • You are all the Things • Principesa • Samba de Somewhere • D’s Living Room.

Allan Holdsworth

As one of the most unique and respected guitarists in the world, Allan Holdsworth has influenced countless musicians, including legendary artists like Frank Zappa, Eddie Van Halen, Yngwie Malmsteen, Alex Lifeson, and Steve Vai. In this one-of-a-kind DVD, Allan performs seven electrifying tunes with his band, which features keyboardist Steve Hunt, bassist Skuli Sverrisson, and drummer Chad Wackerman. Allan breaks down his creative use of scales and chord voicings in this video, and offers insightful suggestions for guitarists to create their own based on his simple, yet revolutionary, concept for harmonizing scales in intervals other than traditional 3rds. See incredible close-up shots of Allan’s amazing technique here, and enjoy the unique opportunity to learn from one of the all-time greats!

Jerry Donahue: Country Tech, Frank Gambale: Acoustic Improv, and Allan Holdsworth, are available now on DVD for $29.95 each.
